About North Atlanta Pipes & Drums
Who We Are
North Atlanta Pipes & Drums was founded in 2007 by four seasoned musicians: pipers Bradford Beaton, Mark Blihovde & Robbie Rogers, & drummer J.J. Hayden. Their vision was to bring together a core of accomplished pipers & drummers that love playing & are ready to compete, while also welcoming developing players. The band is under the direction of Pipe Major Bradford Beaton & Drum Sergeant J.J. Hayden, two very well known musicians in the southeast.
The band was founded on a philosophy of good people, good musicians & good music. While it takes commitment & dedication, the musicians all have families & responsibilities beyond the band. Members take personal responsibility for continuing to develop their musicianship, & then meet approximately twice a month, prepared to play, not to practice. For those at an earlier stage in their piping or drumming lessons are apart from band rehearsals.
2009 marked the band's first full competition season, where entering as a new Grade 5 band it placed 2nd at Greenville & 3rd at Charleston. In addition to competitions, North Atlanta Pipes & Drums performs at public & private events. Highlights last year included playing for the dedication of a new million-dollar pipe organ & playing for Memorial Day ceremonies. The band wears the Royal Stewart tartan. A small band with ambition & a big heart, NAPD welcomes talented, experienced pipers & drummers. Come join us; you can contact us at www.natlpd.org.
